A Kensington organisation, Women\u2019s Communicare Network (TWCN), is in desperate need of warm, winter clothes and items to assist vulnerable children in the community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
TWCN is a non-profit organisation (NPO) that aims to assist and support vulnerable children at risk between the ages of six and 15 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Aurelia Kumar, community development assistant (CDA) for the NPO, says CDAs are employed by the provincial department of social development and they visit schools in the area where they, with the help of the school principals, identify learners at risk who then become part of their programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kumar says they do development programmes, life-skill programmes, excursions and school-holiday programmes with the children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur aim is to assist the community and parents who are fostering, especially those who may not have the means to do so. Many children come with flip flops and socks at times and no rain jackets or jerseys.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She says, currently, they have about 25 children enrolled in their After School Club. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cItems required are caps, scarves, gloves, jerseys, gumboots, rain jackets, school shoes, socks, winter tights (girls) and umbrellas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She says, like many organisations, the Covid-19 pandemic added to their financial burdens. She says they are reliant on donations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur biggest challenge is funding for resources for extra-curricular, life-skills stationary, as well as funds for excursions and the school-holiday programme.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
