In the latest round of Western Province Rugby Union Super League A fixtures over the weekend, a star-studded Villagers side, with former Sharks flyhalf Jaden Chait at the helm, continued with their impressive form, beating visitors Tygerberg 28-13 in an entertaining game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Villagers\u2019 three-quarters played with far more cohesion than the opposition. They were a threat whenever they played the ball out wide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Grant Hermanus, playing in an unfamiliar position at centre, showed some neat touches, but it was on the wing that Thoubaan Gabriels shone, bagging a brace of tries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Up front, Lee-Marvin Mazibuko, a former Western Province Currie Cup player, was a force in the set scrum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For Tygers, who were by no means outclassed, veteran flyhalf Adrian Roberts varied his play intelligently and kept the opposition on its toes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In other Super League A action, most of the attention shifted to the northern derby between hosts Durbanville and Brackenfell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The home side ran out comfortable winners at 41-13, running in five tries (including a penalty try) to one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Brackenfell was very much in the game at half time when they trailed by 20-13. However, after the changeover, they committed a litany of errors and allowed Durbies to score three consecutive tries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
All of these tries came in quick succession in the third quarter of the game, thus ending the game as a contest. In truth, Durbies held the edge on the tight phases of play with lock RP de Beer prominent, while flankers Rubin Venter and Andre Hanekom were able to capitalise on turnover possession which led to tries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The game was a personal triumph for wing Dalen Goliath who, in his 50th first-team appearance, bagged a try. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kraaifontein was hit hard by an injury to captain and flanker Marcel Roux and their influential centre Dan Aspeling, as they battled valiantly to stem the tide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At Green Point Track, SK-Walmers paid the price for undisciplined play in succumbing to log leaders Union-Milnerton 33-3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The home side copped a few yellow cards as well as a red card when replacement centre Fuad Judaar saw them reduced to 14 players in the third quarter. For Uni-Mil, Dean Tattersall on the wing returned to a try-scoring mood with a brace of tries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
NTK at home gained much-needed points at the expense of Hamlets (43-40) in a game which could have gone either way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the Super League B division, Helderberg overwhelmed the hosts Goodwood in a runaway 96-0 win, while Bellville and Collegians played out to a 21-all draw in Bellville South. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the Super League C section, Rangers remain unbeaten, thrashing Blue Jets 60-10 at home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
