The Sunsets and Waterfalls Foundation (SWF) treated 15 girls from Retreat, Steenberg and Steurhof to a one-night empowerment camp as a means of giving back to the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toni Erasmus, SWF co-founder, said the event was held at Rondevlei Nature Reserve in collaboration with a team from Nature Connect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor this Mandela Day we did one of our first activations to do our bit towards ma\u00adking a difference with a one-night camp on Friday 15 July. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe theme was \u2018Girl, let your light shine\u2019 and our objective was to empower young girls to allow their light to shine and to elevate their confidence within themselves and therefore inspiring others to do the same.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that the night was packed with fun activities from team building and conversations covering bullying and social issues to an educational movie night and modelling competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur vision for SWF is aimed at serving women and children in South Africa and we believe that through sharing our stories and building a community, we will be able to empower those who need it to thrive and rise above the circumstances thrown at them \u2013 this includes unemployment, gender-based violence and other socio-economic issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis opportunity was made possible through the help of our donors \u2013 coming from our own communities who donated from the kindness of their heart and our vari\u00adous partners.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senior pastor Desray van Rensburg from the New Hope Church SA also delivered an inspirational talk while Ward 68 councillor Marita Petersen supported the organisation with a goodie bag filled with much needed essential items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cindy Jacobs, SWF co-founder, said it was important to be your authentic self.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is through exposure, sisterhood and being your authentic self that one can set the world alight. I am excited to grow our sisterhood community and take it to a whole new level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
