The burst caused water outages in Glencairn as well as Glencairn Heights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kevin Jacobs, Cape Town Traffic services spokesperson, said traffic had to be diverted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTraffic services have effected road closures at Main and Dido Valley Road and Main and Red Hill Roads in Simon\u2019s Town due to a burst water main.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Ward 61 councillor Simon Liell-Cock said a pipe burst occurred before 06:30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe burst that caused the closure of the Simon\u2019s Town Main Road this morning was at the new valve installed yesterday (Wednesday 27 July). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe burst occurred after 06:24 while the reticulation system was being charged.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the pipe burst affected residents from Red Hill Road to Glencairn Heights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs this is the main line it affected the area from Red Hill Road to Glencairn Heights. Welcome Glen and Da Gama Park are supplied via a different pipeline and the rest of Simon\u2019s Town are supplied from the Biermann and Victoria reservoirs, so they remain unaffected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOnce the problem had been identified as the connecting pipe to the valve, the team immediately set about fabricating a new one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAll other resources are ready and the pipe will be fitted as soon as it has been delivered to the site.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the team experienced some challenges reaching the affected area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere is some difficulty in the immediate site as it is not accessible.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zahid Badroodien, Mayco member for water and sanitation, said in a statement on Thursday 28 July that the areas of Glencairn and Glencairn Heights remained affected as emergency work was conducted on the main water supply. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis has once again resulted in the temporary disruption in the water supply to these areas until the repairs are completed. The Simon\u2019s Town Main Road at Dido Valley Road also had to be closed temporarily due to the resultant mud having covered the roadway. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe consider the impact on residents and possible water losses carefully when we do infrastructure maintenance and repair work.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the duration of the repairs, especially emergency repairs, is however dependent on the complexity of the task at hand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI would like to sincerely thank residents for their patience while the maintenance crew attends to the repairs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cResidents are kindly requested to ensure that all taps are closed to prevent water loss and\/or damage when the supply is restored.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A water tanker was provided for domestic consumption at the Glencairn Hotel in Glen Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused, but it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure to benefit its consumers.\u201d Traffic was affected after a pipe
