About 50 children from Masiphumelele participated in a beach clean-up earlier this month as part of an environmental project hosted by the Lions Club of Tokai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Saturday 5 November, the children were transported to the Soetwater Environmental Education Centre (SEEC) located on the Atlantic seaboard of the Cape Peninsula adjacent to the lighthouse at Kommetjie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The centre is manned by teachers who educate kids on the environment \u2013 plants, animals, the oceans, the air \u2013 and how they all fit together. Here the children got to experience and learn about the Cape Coastal ecosystem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They also cleared Soetwater Beach of about 20 bags of litter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But it wasn\u2019t just all work and no play. Having enjoyed a burger, a soft drink as well as fruit and other refreshments, the children were recharged and ready to tackle the SEEC\u2019s obstacle course. They were some of the last children to enjoy this particular obstacle course as it is soon to be dismantled and replaced with a new one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
