My daughter came to tell us the rooms are on fire,\u201d says Vivienne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe were trapped inside. We couldn\u2019t find the keys. When the plug blew the electricity immediately went out. The house was full of smoke. It was dark. I smashed the window to help ventilation,\u201d says Frederick.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div contenteditable=\"false\" data-embed24=\"Custom\" data-pos=\"middle\" id=\"embed_1ecbb880\">\n<div class=\"custom\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"476\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=476&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FPeoplesPostNewsPaper%2Fvideos%2F207210491888880%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=261&amp;t=0\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden;\" width=\"261\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>With burglar bars blocking their escape, it was God\u2019s hand that helped them, they say, able to escape before succumbing to the flames themselves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No fatalities were reported, with Vivienne sustaining burn wounds to her face and arms.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neighbour\u2019s rushed to their aid, helping to extinguish the blaze.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ward 82 councillor, Washiela Harris says because the house is City rental stock, insurance will rebuild the structure. The process is underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe City advises residents to switch off their electricity completely when they know there is going to be load shedding and switch it back on when power is restored to avoid surges,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the third instance of residential fire caused by a power surge in the ward in a month, she says.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read the full
