Strong winds also caused roof and structure sheets to be lifted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a result, the funicular cart and footpath leading up to the funicular and the lighthouse has been temporarily closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Contractors are busy dismantling the roof and supporting the structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lauren Howard-Clayton, SANParks Regional Communications Manager: Cape Region, says they will assess the safety conditions in the next few hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo injuries have been reported. It was closed quite early this morning and our rangers as well as Cape Point SA staff have been guiding guests to stay clear of the area. The gusting winds are only predicted to subside by this afternoon, which will allow us room to decide on the use of the area and funicular,\u201d says Howard-Clayton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She says trees are also being uprooted along Plateau Road close to the Cape Point Main Gate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The SA Weather Service (SAWS) issued a level 5 weather warning, for today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Heavy rain and thunderstorms in western parts of the Western Cape can be expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
