A 31-year-old man appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates\u2019 Court on Friday 31 March in connection with the murder of an alleged gang member outside Ottery Hypermarket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maxine Jordaan, the spokesperson for the City\u2019s traffic services, says traffic officers assisted with apprehending the suspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOfficers were conducting an enforcement operation near Ottery Centre when they heard shots. They immediately responded when members of the public pointed out a suspect running away from the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAssisted by private security staff, the officers pursued the suspect and managed to apprehend him despite attempted interference from bystanders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWitnesses indicated that a firearm had been thrown into nearby bushes but officers could not find the firearm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Grassy Park Police Station spokesperson Capt Wynita Kleinsmith said a 29-year-old man was killed after multiple gunshots were fired on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOn Tuesday 28 March, police were called to a scene at around 16:00 where they found the body of a male. The 29-year-old deceased was found next to a red Volkswagen Polo with several gunshot wounds to his upper body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe deceased was apparently pulling out of the parking lot when two suspects approached and shot at him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added that the victim, who lived in Hanover Park, was alone at the time of the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA 31-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene and appeared at the Wynberg Magistrates\u2019 court on a charge of murder.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kleinsmith further added that the shooting appeared to be gang-related.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe deceased was apparently from a rival gang. The investigation is still ongoing while the second suspect is still at large.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Metro officers confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of more than R25 000 in Grassy Park on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Ruth Solomons, Metro Police spokesperson, officers acted on information received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt around 10.30 officers acted on a tip-off and sought permission to conduct a search of the premises. They found various quantities of heroin, Mandrax, tik and ecstasy hidden in a tumble dryer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A 54-year-old man was arrested for possession of drugs in that case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
