{"id":49956,"date":"2023-05-02T13:58:50","date_gmt":"2023-05-02T11:58:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/peoplespost\/organisation-still-fighting-fit-20230501\/"},"modified":"2025-03-19T20:53:48","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T18:53:48","slug":"organisation-still-fighting-fit-20230501","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/peoplespost\/organisation-still-fighting-fit-20230501\/","title":{"rendered":"Vannie Hanover Park still fighting fit 3 years after it was established"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>When they chose the name three years ago, they did not know the impact it would eventually have. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On 27 April 2020, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Vannie Hanover Park was born. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now three years later, what better way to celebrate than with some cake \u2013 after a workout, of course. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Freedom Day this year (Thursdays 27 April), faithful members young and old attended the commemorative event at Blomvlei Community Hall to celebrate the organisation\u2019s anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn Freedom Day 2020, we decided the name would be Vannie Hanover Park,\u201d says founder Glenn Hans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe do health and fitness in the community, making people aware of the importance of health and fitness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div contenteditable=\"false\" data-embed24=\"Images\" data-pos=\"middle\" id=\"embed_b0330d05\">\n<div class=\"slide\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-smallsrc=\"https:\/\/cdn.24.co.za\/files\/Cms\/General\/d\/737\/c2e0759958c647f88e7fb3e1b6b440c0.jpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/peoplespost\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/3748d9abc7ad4feeab28a8a7d0188401.jpeg\" title=\"Before cake and celebrations, the attending members had a workout.\"><p><\/p>\n<div class=\"caption\">Before cake and celebrations, the attending members had a workout.<\/div>\n<div class=\"img_accreditation\"><span class=\"source\" style=\"display:none;\"><\/span><span class=\"photographer\" style=\"display:none;\"><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>There are around 120 active members, with ages ranging from four to 78 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They train Monday to Sunday and have been an opening act for the local arts festival, visited most of the hiking trails in the city and competed in several run\/walks. They have also visited the Castle of Good Hope and trained on its roof. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hans, with the help of brightly clothed club members, has also used the platform to promote other important issues such as dumping and waste clean-ups, HIV\/Aids awareness and community upliftment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am so proud to be part of this amazing project,\u201d he says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A
