The Green Jobs Unit forms part of the City of Cape Town\u2019s biodiversity branch of the spatial planning and environment department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ward 82 councillor Washiela Harris says the team was first deployed to the greater Mitchell\u2019s Plain area in April. Tafelsig is one of the major dumping hotspots in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe illegal dumping is not stopping,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe hotspot dumping areas are the focus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe need for the intervention is where residents take ownership and take the City\u2019s hand and say no more dumping in our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They will be deployed until the end of the financial year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The City spends millions of rands on illegal dumping annually. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWorkers were selected at random from the City\u2019s database. A total of 60 workers are from everywhere in the Mitchell\u2019s Plain area as they do the whole of Mitchell\u2019s Plain,\u201d says Harris.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
