Sporting codes affiliated to the Strandfontein Municipal Facilities Management Board (MFMC) will revive a more-than-a-decade-old tradition of bringing the community together while raising needed funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last held in 2009, the sporting codes will host a carnival over the weekend of Friday 6 to Sunday 8 October, and various locals are invited to be part of the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The hope is to have the carnival back annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With a business exhibition area for small businesses to show off trades and services to food and non-food vendors, businesses have an opportunity to apply to exhibit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Benyamin Shade says the carnival will offer something for everyone, including a static car show, live entertainment as well as a five-a-side soccer tournament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are catering for 5 000 to 10 000 people per day for the weekend,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local artists can apply to perform, with a jazz-afternoon family-day feel set for Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe want to use this to raise funds, so we do not have to wait for the City to do everything,\u201d Shade said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt has a process and waiting period, whereas we can fund the maintenance of certain things, such as the fields, ourselves so things can remain open. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We also want to fund affiliate tournaments or replace things that need to be done and employ locals to do the work, resulting in job creation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The MFMC has seven codes affiliated, including skateboarding, soccer, cricket and softball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tickets will cost R50 for adults, R25 for kids 3 to 15. Free parking will be available on site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
No drugs, weapons, alcohol, food or drinks are allowed. There will be strict security on site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
For vendors non-food stalls will cost R250 per day, with food stalls costing R500 per day. Applications for this are already open. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
