Serve the Needy in partnership with Pelican Heights-based SP Attorneys, assisted 75 people with free wills on the second event on Thursday 20 July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first event was held on Tuesday 20 June, with more than 60 people assisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Albert Solomons, chair of Serve the Needy, says the drive was in response to the great need of seniors in the Tafelsig area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe received a lot of complaints from seniors that they did not have a will in place. We then started looking around for assistance. SP Attorneys then came on board to assist,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The attorneys were also on hand to answer any questions about the process of wills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Common questions were around estates of deceased persons, property transfers, executors, debt and marriage or divorce when married in community of property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although held at the New Apostolic Church in Kilimanjaro Street, Tafelsig, the initiative was open to all residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Serve the Needy is based in the basement of this church and church leadership granted them the use of the church hall to facilitate the event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Due to load shedding on the day, a few persons were not assisted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another initiative will be on Thursday 10 August, at the church from 10:30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
