The Sea Point resident celebrated her 100th birthday with close friends and family on Thursday 17 August. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI feel fabulous. I am 100 today. But I feel like I\u2019m in my early 80s,\u201d explains the centenarian as she sits in a Chaise Longue soaking up the winter sun. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI can\u2019t believe that I am 100 years old. I am grateful for everything that I have. The Lord has been good to me over the years.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mother of three explains that she \u201cplayed all kinds of sport\u201d in her younger years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI loved being outdoors and playing sport. I did swimming, played golf, tennis and bridge. Swimming was my favourite,\u201d she explains. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMom was a great swimmer,\u201d echoes her 76-year-old daughter Glen Christie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have a photo of mom rescuing an adult in a swimming pool when she was about five years old. If it wasn\u2019t for the Second World War she would have probably competed in the Olympics.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Christie explains that Ramsden, a former professional nurse, has been living with her for the past 35 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy father and sister died a few years ago. So, my brother Tim and I care for her, but mom lives with me. She is a lovely woman; she is cheeky, funny and she loves talking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI love talking nonsense,\u201d jokes Ramsden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Christie explains that her mom is in good health despite being unable to walk after she fell and broke her leg in 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy mom is quite healthy. She is not on any medication despite some antibiotics. Her hearing and eyesight are not as good as they used to be. But her memory is still good.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ramsden\u2019s son Tim (72) says his mother sparked his love for nature and gardening. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy mom was a great mentor. I am where I am today because of my mom. I think it\u2019s brilliant to be celebrating her centenary.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The centenarian has three grandchildren. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of her grandchildren, Luc (28), says his grandmother taught him to value and appreciate the little things in life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI love her persistence and positive attitude towards everything. She always speaks her mind and finds a way to see the bright side,\u201d he explains. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
