Seeing the \u201chuge need\u201d for Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in Overcome Heights, a new structure is being built to house classes for 34 children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nosabatha Nkubeni, who started operating from a shack seven years ago, has received a sponsorship from Breadline Africa and True North that will see her teaching from a new container that is set to be completed by the end of November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt the moment we have 34 children attending aged from birth up to five years of age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere is also a huge need for an ECD in the community because most of the parents are not working and the children really need their education.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nkubeni, the principal of the facility, bought a space in Overcome Heights two years ago where she could house her classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is not only about education, some parents are not working, so there is also no food at home. Here they get an education and healthy meals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am working together with True North who connected me with Breadline Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey wanted to help me get a new structure because they saw the huge need for the kids.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With unemployment and poverty rife, parents who are unemployed don\u2019t have to pay a fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nkubeni explains: \u201cWith some parents, we come to an agreement, such as sponsors who pay the teachers salaries and then we take those two children who don\u2019t have to pay school fees.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She adds that she is passionate about teaching in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI have 15 to 16 years working in the industry, I\u2019ve also worked at Overcome Educare for around 12 years which is where I started out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
