The Lions Club of Mitchell\u2019s Plain\u2019s club president Rashmiyah Lucas said the Jars of Hope project was first run a few years ago.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lions Club of Mitchell\u2019s Plain has revived a project that aims to relieve hunger. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Club president Rashmiyah Lucas said the Jars of Hope project was first run a few years ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe haven\u2019t done Jars of Hope in a while, but we need to do a Hunger Project as planned,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the help of her husband, she traditionally would cook food to be distributed, but with a limit on time and with other commitments, it was decided to revive the jar project, which does not involve cooking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe beneficiaries are 7de Laan informal settlement in Strandfontein,\u201d Lucas said. \u201cFriends and family generously donated the empty jars, and this week we focused only on ingredients. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOnce again we received assistance from friends and family by donating ingredients as well as cash.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday 18 November the Lions Club members filled the empty jars with rice, soup or beef stock blocks, lentils, soup mix and split peas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are very grateful for the donations received in cash and kind,\u201d said Lucas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
