Provincial police management in conjunction with Manenberg Police hosted a spiritual crime prevention and World Aids Day commemorative event on Friday 1 December, at Tambo Community Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event was attended by various crime volunteers, clergy, organisations and youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Col Tasswell Paulse, commander of social crime prevention in the province, said the event targeted the youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With special emphasis on the youth, the event annually forms part of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign, says Paulse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
YMCA Athlone also delivered an address around the basics of HIV and Aids and how to prevent infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Candles were lit to commemorate World Aids Day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The message of abstinence was clear to the youth that was present. The young people were encouraged to make and take good choices that promoted positive and healthy living. They were told once a person became HIV positive there was no turning back the clock or a reset button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his keynote address, Manenberg Police Station commander Brig Sanele Zama urged parents to take responsibility for their children and not leave them to their own devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cParents need to ensure corrective measures for the youth that step out of line. The youth has become complacent and lazy they are not motivated enough to strive to better their lives thus they fall into making wrong choices,\u201d says Zama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
