Metric Storage and the City of Cape Town are continuing with negotiations to remove the remaining shipping containers that arrived at the Riverview Church of Christ in Lakeside five months ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In December last year, around 100 shipping containers arrived at the church premises after a lease agreement was signed with Metric Storage, causing an uproar in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Monday 12 February, the City obtained an interdict in the Western Cape High Court to stop the parties from illegally operating a storage business at the church (\u201cPlug pulled on storage\u201d People\u2019s Post<\/span> 20 February).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Those who had their goods stored at the property had until the end of March to retrieve and remove their goods. According to the City\u2019s deputy mayor Eddie Andrews, around 40 shipping containers were removed by Thursday 28 March, with negotiations to have the remaining containers removed by May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAs far as the City is aware the respondents have been complying with the court order and we are not aware of any new complaints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMany of the Metric Storage clients have removed their goods stored in the containers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The court order stated that Metric Storage and Riverview Church of Christ, Trustees of the Church of Christ, Trustees of Riverview Church of Christ Trust, Bijou Makembe and Honore Mbembo Makembe were restrained from operating a storage facility and leasing containers on the property. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Andrews added that the City will return to the court if the rest of the containers are not removed by Thursday 16 May. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOn 16 May, the City will move for an order in the Western Cape High Court for inter alia, the removal of the remaining containers from the property by the respondents ( if these have not been removed), as well as that the respondents be interdicted from using the property as a
