{"id":45589,"date":"2024-07-03T06:03:37","date_gmt":"2024-07-03T04:03:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/peoplespost\/cape-of-good-hope-spca-closes-plumstead-vet-shop-after-14-years-20240703\/"},"modified":"2025-03-19T22:41:00","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T20:41:00","slug":"cape-of-good-hope-spca-closes-plumstead-vet-shop-after-14-years-20240703","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/peoplespost\/cape-of-good-hope-spca-closes-plumstead-vet-shop-after-14-years-20240703\/","title":{"rendered":"Cape of Good Hope SPCA closes Plumstead vet shop after 14 years"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Cape of Good Hope SPCA has closed its vet shop and animal clinic in Plumstead.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>This is due to low profit margins and industry competition. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The closure, effective June 28, marks the end of nearly 14 years of operation since opening in 2010.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cape of Good Hope SPCA announced the permanent closure of its vet shop and animal clinic in Plumstead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a social media post, the SPCA explained their decision was \u201ctough to make\u201d but in the best interest of the organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur SPCA Vet Shop in Plumstead has closed its doors,\u201d the post read. \u201cSadly, low profit margins and the competitive nature of the industry mean we\u2019ll generate more income from the property rental than via our retail operations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belinda Abraham, Cape of Good Hope SPCA spokesperson, shared with <span><em>People\u2019s Pos<\/em><em>t<\/em><\/span> that the shop officially closed its doors on Friday 21 June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe team (is) currently taking stock and we will be vacating officially on 28 June.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Plumstead Vet Shop, which opened its doors in 2010, had been operational for nearly 14 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div contenteditable=\"false\" data-embed24=\"Blockquote\" data-pos=\"middle\" id=\"embed_3c27af82\">\n<div class=\"text\">\u201cIt was a difficult decision in the interests of sustainability,\u201d <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>said Abraham. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA new tenant takes occupancy from 1 July.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-future\">Future<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The premises acquired by the Cape of Good Hope SPCA in 2021 will be rented out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful to our loyal customers who have supported us over the years and who know that when they shop at an SPCA Vet Shop they further the cause of animal welfare and become partners in our fight against animal cruelty,\u201d said Abraham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Residents have the option to visit the SPCA\u2019s Vet Shop and animal clinic in Grassy Park. Reacting to the announcement on social media, residents who frequented the shop expressed their regret.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLoved this little shop and the people were so knowledgeable and helpful,\u201d one wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another commented: \u201cReally sad news; I was also buying my dog\u2019s products there.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A third person pointed out that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is a really tough market to be in and with Checkers coming into that market it has hit many smaller shops in that industry.
