He was rushed to hospital and succumbed to his injuries in hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news24.com\/news24\/community-newspaper\/peoples-post\/bike-memorial-highlights-cyclist-safety-after-death-of-teen-in-sea-point-20240702\" target=\"_blank\">memorial bike has since been placed in the area<\/a> in memory of De Kock and other cyclists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shadeeran Govender, general manager of Netcare Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital, says his debt was settled as \u201ca compassionate gesture of goodwill\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>READ:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.news24.com\/news24\/community-newspaper\/peoples-post\/bike-memorial-highlights-cyclist-safety-after-death-of-teen-in-sea-point-20240702\" target=\"_blank\">Bike memorial highlights cyclist safety after death of teen in Sea Point<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe devastating loss of this promising young life is deeply felt in the community. We can confirm that as a compassionate gesture of goodwill, the costs relating to his brief hospitalisation have been absorbed by Netcare to help relieve the family\u2019s financial burden at this most difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Govender, final confirmation of payment was communicated to the family on Friday 12 July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-awe\">Awe<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Calib\u2019s mom, Anthea described it as divine intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are in awe. We give God all the glory. The Lord has been so good to us even with my son\u2019s passing, God\u2019s favour is still upon his life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mother explains that his medical bill amounted to about R360 000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are still in shock. It was a huge amount and that was really a worry for us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mother also expressed her gratitude to the outpouring of love and support for her and her family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De Kock explains that she\u2019s still coming to terms with her son\u2019s passing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen the school started for the third term recently, I was thinking about him and his friends at school. He was in Grade 11. I experienced a lot of emotions. It\u2019s so sad.
