For the new deputy law enforcement chief, Jason Hamilton, his dream of making a positive contribution to making communities safer has taken him from Manenberg to Mitchells Plain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Growing up in Manenberg and matriculating from Silverstream Secondary School, his career started as a security officer for two years, after which he joined the Department of Community Corrections in Mitchells Plain, then the South African Police Service, after which he joined the City\u2019s law enforcement department as a Principal Inspector in 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hamilton is described as an innovator and has started many programmes and projects within law enforcement that are still active, such as the Neighbourhood Safety Teams and the Law Enforcement Auxiliary programme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In December 2019, he bagged the Safety and Security Directorate\u2019s Officer of the Year award and at the beginning of this month was named deputy chief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe policing environment is ever-changing and as a manager, I will need to adapt, especially to technology and data analysis to assist in addressing crime. I am a positive and optimistic individual and I thrive on turning my low points around,\u201d says Hamilton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
