According to Parker major upgrades on Tafelberg Road also played a role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parker says despite the challenges the project is still on track. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI want to commend our staff who has gone above and beyond to try and make up for lost time and ensure that we meet the reopening deadline.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andries de Vries, technical executive manager for Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC), says each cable car uses four 1.5 km-long track rope cables (the station-to-station length is 1.2 km).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each cable is currently being replaced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He explains that the current track ropes have reached their 20-year lifespan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each cable weighs about 20 tonnes and takes about a week to replace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div contenteditable=\"false\" data-embed24=\"Images\" data-pos=\"middle\" id=\"embed_385fab9a\">\n<div class=\"slide\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Cableway\" data-smallsrc=\"https:\/\/cdn.24.co.za\/files\/Cms\/General\/d\/12108\/12edca057d8842368f609a3db2939140.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/peoplespost\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/9184b556600740f1b2a8d2c84c069493.jpg\" title=\" A team of Swiss engineers are supporting and supervising a local team. \"><p><\/p>\n<div class=\"caption\">A team of Swiss engineers are supporting and supervising a local team. <\/div>\n<div class=\"img_accreditation\"><span class=\"source\" style=\"display:none;\">People\u2019s Post<\/span><span class=\"photographer\" style=\"display:none;\">Kaylynne Bantom <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Parker says to ensure strict compliance with the preventive maintenance protocols stipulated by global governing standards and guidelines, TMACC closes the Cableway annually to complete certain required tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De Vries explains that all TMACC\u2019s equipment is manufactured by world cableway market leader Doppelmayr Garaventa Group, an international manufacturer of ropeways and people movers for ski areas, urban transport, amusement parks, and material handling systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div contenteditable=\"false\" data-embed24=\"Images\" data-pos=\"middle\" id=\"embed_972d5eb4\">\n<div class=\"slide\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Cableway\" data-smallsrc=\"https:\/\/cdn.24.co.za\/files\/Cms\/General\/d\/12108\/f0dbeeec071148dead2ab83b9ed2c944.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/peoplespost\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/493128d124604923ac05d949956288f9.jpg\" title=\"The cables that will be replaced. \"><p><\/p>\n<div class=\"caption\">The cables that will be replaced. <\/div>\n<div class=\"img_accreditation\"><span class=\"source\" style=\"display:none;\">People\u2019s Post<\/span><span class=\"photographer\" style=\"display:none;\">Kaylynne Bantom <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>He says 4 cables (two per cable car) have already been replaced and adds that the rest will be replaced in the next few weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parker says: \u201cWe are confident that after this work is completed, we would be meeting, as we always do, the internationally recognised standard and get that stamp of approval that gives us the confidence to operate this cableway and take up millions of visitors as we intend to do despite the 7-week closure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parker explains that the estimated cost cannot be confirmed at this stage but says \u201cIt is not a cheap exercise\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe track ropes had to be purchased, stored, insured and installed.
