The Claremont Library hosted a puppet show of \u201cThe Gruffalo\u201d at Arderne Gardens on Thursday 3 October, marking the end of its successful reading programme, \u201cSpring Into Reading.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This programme, running from Monday 12 August to Friday 13 September, engaged 100 Grade R learners from five educational centres in Manenberg, including Little Lilies and Mustadafin Educare Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event was made possible through partnerships with Southfield Library, local media and Arderne Gardens, uniting the community in a celebration of literacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over the five-week programme, children explored 25 books, engaging in themed activities that fostered their love for literature. Each participant received a certificate of attendance, highlighting their achievements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nuhaa Portland, the Claremont librarian, expressed her pride in the initiative: \u201cMany start reading for teens, but we focus on the little ones because we understand that the first 1 000 days are of paramount importance and seeing the children\u2019s excitement during the puppet show was the ultimate reward. \u201cThey truly embraced reading, and their enthusiasm shone through in their book reviews and discussions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
