More than R2 million will be spent on upgrades at two local libraries following weather damage and vandalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hanover Park and Manenberg libraries are currently closed for the upgrades and repair work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hanover Park sustained weather-related damage during winter with repairs amounting to just over R1,2 million. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Locals are urged to make use of Athlone, Lansdowne or Rylands libraries during the renovations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Manenberg Library sustained vandalism-related damage and general wear and tear to the value of R1,3 million. Locals are urged to use Gugulethu, Heideveld and Rylands libraries as alternatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The libraries closed at the beginning of this month and are set to reopen at the end of next month (November).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The work to be completed at both facilities includes roof repairs, electrical systems upgrades, tiling, painting and repairs to windows, doors and burglar proofing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hanover Park Library will offer limited services at the community hall adjacent to the library. This includes study spaces, book club sessions, reading programmes, as well as digital and information literacy sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe timing is not ideal, but it was impacted by a number of factors, including contractor availability, the finalisation of purchase orders and other administrative processes and the weather.
