{"id":44138,"date":"2024-11-26T14:51:34","date_gmt":"2024-11-26T12:51:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/peoplespost\/new-athlone-cpf-executive-takes-charge-for-five-year-term-20241126\/"},"modified":"2025-03-19T23:10:27","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T21:10:27","slug":"new-athlone-cpf-executive-takes-charge-for-five-year-term-20241126","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/peoplespost\/new-athlone-cpf-executive-takes-charge-for-five-year-term-20241126\/","title":{"rendered":"New Athlone CPF executive takes charge for five-year term"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Athlone CPF has elected a new executive, with Sharon Classen retaining her position as chair. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Her focus in the next term will be on educating the community about crime reporting and strengthening partnerships between police, schools, and businesses. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The CPF aims to reduce Athlone\u2019s high crime rates through community collaboration.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The Athlone Community Policing Forum has elected its new executive for the next five year term, with Sharon Classen retaining her position as chair. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Wednesday 20 November, registered organisations from the policing precinct attended the election at the Athlone Police Station boardroom to put in power the new executive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Classen says her first term was about rebuilding relationships between police and the community and establishing a solid partnership. \u201cIn order to achieve this objective, required active engagements with communities and having police present at these engagements. Now that the partnership is established and the foundation is laid, we can build towards a safer environment for all,\u201d she says. \u201cFor next year, we want to focus on education; educating communities on reporting crimes \u2013 how and when to, the criminal justice process and embark on getting schools and business to join the forum.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Classen encourages the community of Athlone to work with police to promote safer communities.\u201cPolice requires the support of the community to improve our safety. Be their eyes and ears \u2013 share information on perpetrators and stand up against criminal activities,\u201d she says. \u201cIn the words of Mattie JT Stepanek \u2018Unity is strength. When there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Athlone precinct experiences high crime of all types, including murder, sexual offences, assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, common assault, common robbery, robbery with aggravating circumstances and hijacking and the partnership is key in addressing this, she
