    The Cape Genealogy Society\u2019s has an upcoming meeting on Saturday 22 February, it promises to offer attendees a unique historical perspective, with renowned guest speaker Jaco van der Merwe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The event is set to take place at St John\u2019s Anglican Church Hall in Wynberg, with the gathering beginning at 14:00 for a 14:30 start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Van der Merwe, a retired principal archivist with over 37 years of experience at the Cape Archives and Records Service, will present a captivating talk titled \u201cTwelve Generations at the Cape of Good Hope since 1661.\u201d The talk will explore the fascinating genealogy of the Van der Merwe family, which has been rooted in the Cape for more than three centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    According to Una Kyriacos, secretary of the Cape Genealogy Society, the event will provide an incredible opportunity for attendees to engage with the rich tapestry of Cape Town\u2019s history through the lens of one family\u2019s remarkable journey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Jaco\u2019s research into his family\u2019s history will offer an intimate view of the evolution of a Cape family over twelve generations, stretching back to 1661. It is a rare and insightful look at how one family\u2019s story intersects with the broader historical narrative of the Cape<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Van de Merwe\u2019s presentation will not only cover his family\u2019s lineage but also shed light on significant moments in history, including its connections to other well-known Cape families. \u201cWhat makes this talk especially intriguing is the inclusion of unique anecdotes and pivotal moments in the history of the Van de Merwe family. Jaco\u2019s extensive knowledge of military, naval, and aviation history will also bring additional layers of context to the story,\u201d Kyriacos added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In addition to his vast experience as an archivist, Van de Merwe is a respected researcher, with a professional background that spans several academic fields. \u201cHis career has focused on the intersections of genealogy, history, and personal narratives, making him the perfect speaker for this occasion,\u201d Kyriacos noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Tea, coffee and refreshments will be on offer for a nominal fee of R30. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
