Projects convener Ingrid Russell immediately reached out to Averil Thomas from Living Hope to determine how the service club could most effectively support the displaced families during this crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Community generosity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The club’s appeal for assistance received an overwhelming response from the public, enabling members to collect and distribute essential items including food, clothing, household goods and sandwiches for the affected families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “The Fish Hoek Deep South Lions Club is in awe of the amazing contribution from all involved and would like to extend a big thank you,” club representatives said, acknowledging the remarkable community spirit displayed during the emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Regional support delivers results<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Lions Multiple District 410 demonstrated additional solidarity by providing a R10 000 disaster relief grant specifically designated for purchasing 38 mattresses, which were delivered to Living Hope on 4 February for distribution among fire victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “We are very fortunate that we are not faced with unexpected challenges in such situations as we have the support of our Lions District Disaster coordinators and a great relationship with Living Hope,” noted Lion representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This emergency response exemplifies the club’s broader community commitment throughout the Deep South Peninsula. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The Fish Hoek Deep South Lions serve communities from Muizenberg to Simon’s Town in all disaster situations and have assisted 15 700 people over the past seven months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Upcoming community events<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The club will host the “Big Walk for Little Warriors” on Fish Hoek Beach on 21 February at 13:00, raising awareness for childhood cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How to get involved<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The club meets on the second Monday of every month at Fish Hoek Bowling Club at 18:30 for 19:00, welcoming new members interested in community service.
