Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said the fire in the Hout Bay Valley was first reported at approximately 13:15 on Wednesday as vegetation alight. \u201cLater, we were alerted to slopes alight above Llandudno,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Carelse said three helicopters were deployed to water-bomb the head of the fire above Llandudno, with two remaining active until last light. An Incident Command Post was established at the Hout Bay Fire Station, with operations on the ground coordinated by the Incident Management Team (IMT), .\u201cThis was a very fluid situation, with the wind proving challenging,\u201d Carelse said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said City firefighting resources withdrew from the Hout Bay and Llandudno areas at approximately 02:00 on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn terms of property damage only one home was affected.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Carelse also confirmed no injuries were reported and said the cause of the fires remained unknown. He said firefighting crews would conduct inspections every three to four hours on Thursday and look out for any flare-ups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During operations a firefighter apprehended a suspect who was found on the affected property, allegedly attempting to steal items. The suspect was taken into custody by the South African Police Service.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
