CAPE TOWN-<\/strong>Anti-gang unit operations across four Western Cape communities on Thursday 23 October resulted in five firearm confiscations and six arrests as police continued efforts to remove weapons from gang-affected areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The coordinated raids targeted premises in Capricorn, Overcome Heights, Steenvilla Complex and Vrygrond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The unit searched a premises in Frederick Road, Capri, where they confiscated a 9mm pistol along with 19 rounds of ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 22-year-old man was arrested for possession of the unlicensed firearm and ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At an address in Steenvilla Complex, officers discovered a 9mm pistol without a serial number and an assortment of ammunition rounds during a premises search. Two men, aged 19 and 35, were arrested for possession of the unlicensed firearm and ammunition, highlighting the involvement of different age groups in illegal weapons possession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Klaasen Road, Vrygrond, anti-gang unit members acted on intelligence about an individual suspected of firearm possession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The targeted operation led to the arrest of a 22-year-old man found in possession of a 9\u2009mm pistol with eight rounds of ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two separate operations in Overcome Heights yielded additional arrests and weapon recoveries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 39-year-old woman was arrested for illegal firearm possession when found with a .22 revolver and ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a second operation at a premises in Mountain Road, Overcome Heights, officers arrested a 35-year-old man after discovering a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

.38 Special revolver hidden in an informal dwelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All arrested suspects will appear in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday 27 October to face charges related to unlicensed firearm and ammunition possession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
