The City of Cape Town is alerting residents and motorists to traffic changes<\/a> and logistics for the Speed Classic Cape Town, taking place this weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For two days a stretch of Philip Kgosana Drive will transform into a 1,8 km motorsport track featuring historic cars, racing cars<\/a> and supercars on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s the Mother City\u2019s first hill-climb event in more than 60 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To prepare the road for event day by converting it into a track and installing safety barriers Philip Kgosana Drive will be closed to traffic in the evenings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outbound lane will be closed nightly from 19:00 to 05:00 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inbound lane will remain open during this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From tomorrow (Thursday) until Sunday 26 October both the inbound and outbound lanes will be closed to traffic all day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inbound lane will be open from 05:00 on Monday 27 October to allow traffic flowing into the city but the outbound lane will remain closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matric learners attending schools in the City Bowl and surrounding areas are encouraged to allow extra travel time this week to ensure they arrive on time and are mentally prepared for their exams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Speed Classic is bringing together 150 cars worth more than R600 million for an exciting weekend of motoring fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday car lovers can enjoy a display of 70 classic cars, including some of the rarest in the world, driving on the track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday the focus shifts to fast supercars and powerful race cars as they compete in the thrilling King of the Mountain race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traffic diversions
<\/strong>
With Philip Kgosana Drive closed to traffic on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the following routes are safe to take:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7 N1 incoming and outgoing<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7 N2 outgoing, via the City Centre and Nelson Mandela Boulevard (including Strand Street and Hertzog Boulevard connections)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7 N2 incoming, diverting onto Nelson Mandela Boulevard and taking the Strand Street and Hertzog Boulevard exits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parking<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is limited parking at the race village and surrounds. Spectators are advised that shuttles will be provided to transport them from these designated parking areas to the venue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Free parking is available at the Civic Centre, with a shuttle taking spectators to the venue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is also designated parking at Good Hope Seminary Junior School in Vredehoek Avenue, and guests will be shuttled to the event entrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those using e-hailing services to get to the venue are advised to set their drop-off at Gardens Centre and 25 Jutland Avenue, Devil’s Peak Estate for hospitality ticket holders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gates open at 07:00 and the festival runs until 19:00 on Saturday 25 October while Sunday\u2019s programme begins at 08:00 and goes on until 19:00<\/p>\n\n\n\n
