CAPE TOWN-<\/strong>One person died and several others were displaced after a fire broke out in Masiphumelele on Monday 13 October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around 06:00 on Monday morning, the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service received reports of shacks on fire in Masemola Street. The blaze destroyed 20 shacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Several crews were dispatched to the scene, including the IMT Type 4 team,” its fire and rescue spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An IMT (Incident Management Team) Type 4 team is a local, smaller-scale response group used for initial or short-duration incidents, such as a car accident, a small fire, or a localized storm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carelse said: “One house and 20 shacks were destroyed in the fire. One person is confirmed to have died, but their age and gender are as yet unknown. At this stage approximately 80 people were displaced. The fire was extinguished at 10:05.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
