Blue Route Mall has once again opened its doors to creativity. The mall is hosting Bergvliet High School’s fourth annual Matric Visual Arts Expo from Monday 29 September to Thursday 2 October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition showcases the exceptional talents of matric art learners. It extends beyond the school walls to give the broader community a chance to engage with young artistry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Talent and resilience on display<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

School principals and teachers say the expo reflects not only talent but also resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saroj Shukla, Bergvliet High’s dedicated art teacher, has been instrumental in guiding learners. She helps them explore new techniques and refine their styles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Every brushstroke tells a story of courage, discipline, and imagination,” said Shukla. “I am immensely proud of how our learners push creative boundaries. They support one another on this journey.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inclusive approach inspires younger artists<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The spotlight is on matriculants. However, the expo also features works from learners in Grades eight to 11. This inclusive approach encourages mentorship among peers. It inspires younger artists to strive for excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building on artistic legacy<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The school has a strong artistic legacy. Renowned impressionist Derric van Rensburg, a Bergvliet High alumnus, stands as proof of what can be achieved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building on this tradition, learners have exhibited at prestigious venues. These include the UCT Irma Stern Museum. Last year Bergvliet’s matric art learners placed in the top five schools in the Western Cape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, works by Mia Zutphen, Adam Ceto, Kioko Wiener, and Hannah Walter continue that momentum. Their art is already receiving wider recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Community support<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Blue Route Mall spokespersons say they are proud to support initiatives that bring the community together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“By providing a platform for youth and the arts, we hope to inspire the next generation of creatives,” the mall said in a statement. “We celebrate the diversity of talent in our community.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visitors could view the vibrant exhibition until Thursday 2 October. They could also purchase the 2026 Visual Art Calendar at R120. The calendar serves as a colourful keepsake of learners’ creativity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
