Rondebosch – On Saturday, 6 September, Rustenburg Junior Girls\u2019 School hosted its first entrepreneurship conference for Grade 7 learners. The event was held ahead of the school\u2019s annual Market Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Running from 09:00 to 11:00, the conference formed part of the Grade 7 entrepreneurship programme. It gave learners the chance to explore business ideas and interact with successful entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the guest speakers, Leigh Schuber, is a South African women\u2019s-wear designer with over 21 years in the fashion industry. She encouraged learners to work hard and look for opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOpportunities don\u2019t just fall into your lap,\u201d she said. \u201cI always looked for ways to get involved and built my brand by listening to customers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other speakers included Esethu Cenga, co-founder and CEO of Rewoven, and Emma Arogundade, a writer and lecturer. Lucien de Voux, co-founder of health-tech company Palindrome Data, also spoke. Moreover, Rebecca Gray, a Grade 9 learner who excelled in the 2023 programme, shared her insights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Deputy Principal Neil Ryklieff, the goal was to create a professional conference experience. He said, \u201cThis event allows our learners to build real-world skills and learn directly from entrepreneurs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Learners arrived in formal attire, received goodie bags, and immersed themselves in a business-like atmosphere. As a result, they gained a clearer understanding of what it means to be an entrepreneur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI learned we should use the resources we have and apply our skills to make a difference,\u201d said Julia Cocks, a Grade 7 learner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Learners from Molo Mhlaba Primary School in Khayelitsha also attended. Lithemba Boya shared her takeaway: \u201cTo become a businesswoman, you need to take risks, serve others, and have fun while doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The conference not only inspired the learners but also prepared them for Entrepreneurs Day. This event takes place on Friday, 25 September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By combining practical learning with role model engagement, Rustenburg Junior Girls\u2019 School is helping young learners build the confidence they need. It also equips them with skills needed to thrive in business.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
