During the southern hemisphere’s winter months (June to July), billions of sardines (Sardinops sagax) migrate from the cooler waters of the Cape to the warmer Indian Ocean currents off KwaZulu-Natal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Scientific research suggests this remarkable journey is a seasonal reproductive movement of a genetically distinct subpopulation of sardines.
