The residents of The Avenue Retirement Hotel are opening their doors to the community for a two-day art and craft exhibition this October.

The upcoming public showcase celebrates the work of the hotel’s Creative Group, which was established in October 2024. Gathering every Monday for two hours of laughter and storytelling, the group brings together enthusiastic residents aged between 60 and 95.

Operating under their inspiring collective theme “I DO!”, these creative seniors embrace a proud policy of never saying “I cannot”.

“Visitors can expect a highly diverse display of outstanding talent spanning fine art, stone painting, needle embroidery, pencil drawing, and shell crafting. The exhibition will feature beautiful handmade jerseys, mittens, beanies, and booties knitted specially for newborn babies. Attendees can also view unique cat blankets crocheted regularly for a local Fish Hoek cattery, alongside an intricate, deeply personal autobiography compiled by the group’s resident scrapbooking expert.

“After months of admiring the beautiful weekly artwork produced during their sessions, the members decided to organise a public event to share their masterpieces. “

The exhibition highlights how local seniors use different mediums and brilliant ideas to turn everyday materials into something entirely new and useful.

The public exhibition will take place at The Avenue Retirement Hotel, located at 9 First Avenue, Fish Hoek. The doors will be open to all visitors on Saturday 17 October and Sunday 18 October between 10:00 and 16:00 daily.

Admission is free, and everyone is welcome to attend, admire the local talent, and support the village’s vibrant creative spirit.
