A 19-year-old man has been arrested in Hanover Park in the early hours of Wednesday morning (29 March) on charges of malicious damage to property.
Members of a security company were alerted to an alarm at an ATM at business premises in Stonelands Road, Hanover Park shortly after 03:00.
“On arrival at the ATM, members of the security company found a 19-year-old man with a crowbar,” says police spokesperson Capt Lance Goliath.
The ATM was excessively damaged, but no cash was taken.
“The security personnel arrested the man, 19, and handed him over to the South African Police Service at Philippi. Police is investigating a case of malicious damage to property,” says Goliath.
Once charged the suspect will make his court appearance at the Athlone.
