A Cape Town man has died following a stabbing incident at a music concert held at the Caste of Good Hope on Saturday 3 February.
According to police an altercation broke out between two unknown men, who were attending the Summer Groove music event.
The victim was rushed to New Somerset Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries on Sunday 4 February.
Capt FC van Wyk, provincial police spokesperson, said: “The deceased was stabbed and treated on the scene for injuries sustained and afterwards taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance for further medical treatment. He later died from injuries sustained.”
According to Van Wyk a murder case was opened for investigation and no arrest had yet been made.
Calvyn Gilfellan, Chief Executive Officer of the Castle Control Board, extended his condolences to the families and described the incident as “unfortunate”.
“Safety and security are among the Castle of Good Hope’s top strategic risks,” he pointed out, “and this is the first such incident in my 10 years at the castle.
“However, this is simply one incident too many. I am already engaging the event organisers, their security company and our on-site security to understand what happened, with a view to preventing unfortunate incidents such as this in future.”
