Steenberg police are investigating the death of a six-year-old boy who was found in a washing machine at his family home in Cafda on Friday morning, 19 December.
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the child’s father went to the police station to report his son missing. Police officers then accompanied the father to his home in Ensor Street, Cafda, to begin searching for the child. During the search, police were led to a washing machine where they discovered the boy’s body. Medical personnel who responded to the scene, declared the child deceased.
The incident has been registered as an inquest for investigation, with police working to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic death. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death, Twigg confirmed.
The police have not released further details about the circumstances leading to the child’s death, as the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are appealing to anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
