Sixteen Cubs from 1st Muizenberg Sea Scout group got together to make chocolate truffles and deliver them to Nerina Gardens nursing home for Mandela Day on Friday 18 July.

The Cubs spent time singing and entertaining the elderly with campfire songs, showing off knotting skills and cracking secret codes with the residents, said Scout Group Leader Angela Lee-Wright.

“The joy it brought to both the Cubs and the residents was evident. The Cubs thoroughly enjoyed sitting and talking with the residents, holding hands and sharing hugs, joy was spread and 67 Mandela minutes were spent well,” she said.

The whole Group (Meerkats, Cubs, Scouts and Rovers) were also tasked with a challenge to make 67 Jars of Hope which are meal jars that can feed four people per jar.

“We set out with a goal of 67 Jars of Hope, and thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of our members, we ended up with 210 jars, enough to provide 840 warm, nourishing meals. Weโ€™re so grateful to everyone who took the time to contribute, and to those who helped with sorting and packing. Itโ€™s a lovely reminder of whatโ€™s possible when we come together as a community. What a meaningful way to start the term,” she said.
