School earns badges in Winter Animal Challenge for Maths

Perivale Primary School learners earned their badges in the Winter Animal Challenge for Maths Curriculum Online (MCO) on Tuesday 28 July, completing a series of maths challenges that tested their skills and perseverance.

Learners share their experiences

Grade 3 learner Hope Annies (10) said the challenge was tough but rewarding.

“It was challenging, but I tried my best to do it over and over again,” she said. Hope enjoys netball and drama and said the key was to work hard and complete all the Brain Quest tasks required.

Fellow learner, Joel Chikokwe, whose favourite activities are soccer and arts and crafts, said he learnt that if he keeps trying he can achieve his goals.

“I have had to attempt all the Brain Quests again,” he said.

Grade 4 learner Ammarah Benjamin (10), who likes swimming and arts, said she felt very proud after completing Term 1 with two badges and then finishing the animal challenge.

“I had to keep trying and do my MCO,” she said.

Mywi Metipa (10), in Grade 4, said he likes helping the environment and doing arts and crafts.

He said he learnt to keep trying and that he might reach his goal or find another way.

“If I got some wrong I will just do it again and again,” he said.

Grade 5 learner Naeema Jordan (11), who loves going places and making contact with friends, said the lesson was to keep trying and never give up on yourself and your goals.

“If I got some questions wrong I redo it. Ask for help to redo the question,” she said

Building maths skills

School teacher and spokesperson Nicolene Langer said MCO is a maths programme done from Grade 3 to Grade 7 on a computer or cellphone, helping learners strengthen their maths skills and assisting them in their Systemics.

“The learners learnt some maths skills at the grade level and challenges that they need to do,” she said.
