CAPE TOWN – Kleinberg Primary School learners are stepping into the new school year with confidence thanks to a generous donation of 100 pairs of school shoes from the Rotary Club Cape of Good Hope
The heartwarming handover of the brand-new footwear to the Ocean View school took place on Tuesday 27 January.

Rotary Club Cape of Good Hope, formed in 1958, is part of Rotary District 9350, which includes more than 80 volunteer service clubs operating in the Western and Northern Cape of South Africa as well as Angola and Namibia.
The initiative was spearheaded by Rotary member Marge Uphold, who informed the school about the club’s outreach intentions, a project it gave its unequivocal assent to.
“Marge contacted me last year, saying her club would like to do a shoe outreach at Kleinberg Primary School in term 1 of 2026,” said principal Denzil van Graan. “There was a great need for shoes and stationery at the school.
“Many parents don’t have money to buy their children new school shoes at the start of the school year, having prioritised school uniform, stationery and transport expenses.”
Continued community support
The shoe donation marks the latest chapter in an ongoing partnership between Kleinberg Primary and the Rotary Club.
The organisations have collaborated previously on meaningful community projects, including a stationery drive in 2025 and a garden project in 2022.
Van Graan expressed heartfelt gratitude for the club’s continued support and community investment.
“We’re grateful for your support and generosity. The kids are thrilled with their new shoes!”
