CAPE TOWN – Two separate police operations across the Western Cape resulted in significant arrests on Wednesday, 28 January with authorities seizing dagga cultivation equipment and an illegal firearm in coordinated law enforcement efforts.

Ocean View Saps members and Metro Police executed a search warrant at a Capri Sunnydale residence on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 15:45, uncovering an extensive dagga cultivation operation.
Officers discovered dagga plants, sophisticated cultivation equipment, and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be proceeds of crime at the Berry Road property.
A 43-year-old male suspect was arrested for dealing in drugs and will appear in Simon’s Town Magistrates’ Court once formally charged.
Vrygrond rifle incident
In an unrelated incident, Public Order Police members arrested a 19-year-old suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm during routine patrols in Vrygrond early Wednesday morning.
At approximately 04:30, officers spotted the suspect carrying a suspicious object in Berry Road.
Upon seeing the marked police vehicle, the suspect fled into a nearby yard and threw the object onto a house roof.
Police investigation revealed the discarded item was a .22 calibre rifle, which was immediately confiscated and booked as evidence.
The teenage suspect will appear in Muizenberg Magistrates’ Court once charged with unlicensed firearm possession.
