The public can now access the eastern parking area at Muizenberg beachfront after the City of Cape Town announced that the area has been re-opened.
The City’s Coastal Management branch confirmed on Tuesday 19 August that the eastern parking area in front of the Muizenberg Civic Centre is now open to the public. Some minor works are still taking place, but the area is ready for visitors to access the beachfront.
Earlier this year, the City spearheaded the beachfront upgrades at the Muizenberg beachfront. The facelift entails major upgrades to public amenities and replacing the aged seawalls. “We know how important the parking areas are at this very popular beachfront, and I’m delighted to let the public know that the eastern parking area in front of the Muizenberg Civic Centre, on the beachside, is open for use. I’m sure visitors will enjoy the new paved area, and improvements. Some minor work is still on-going and the soft landscaping will be implemented in due course. This project is being implemented in phases over a two-year period. The first phase commenced in February this year on the western side of Surfer’s Corner, next to the railway line where the informal gravel parking area is under construction and thus remained closed to the public. We are on track to open the St James Walkway in time for the festive season and will keep residents informed,” said the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayco member for spatial planning and environment, Eddie Andrews.
