CAPE TOWN – Young musicians from the Masi Violin Outreach captivated learners at Kommetjie Primary School on Friday, 20 March, as part of the school’s newly launched Local Heroes initiative.

The programme, titled “Celebrating Our Local Heroes”, aims to introduce learners to individuals and organisations making a meaningful difference in their communities.

The violin outreach group, based in Masiphumelele, was selected as the first featured organisation due to its impactful work in providing children with access to music education and creative opportunities.

During the event, the young violinists shared their personal journeys, performed musical pieces, and collaborated with the school’s marimba band in a lively and memorable performance.

The initiative highlighted how music can foster confidence, discipline and a sense of belonging among young people.

Organisers at Kommetjie Primary said the goal of the initiative is to inspire learners by showcasing real examples of leadership and service, encouraging them to use their own talents to uplift others.

Masi Violin Outreach founder Nadiah Mony described the visit as a special experience, praising the learners who performed and shared their stories of growth from students to teachers.

She added that the opportunity made students, their families and schools incredibly proud.

The event also created a space for cultural exchange and collaboration, with the combined marimba and violin performance standing out as a highlight.

Kommetjie Primary hopes this will be the first of many Local Heroes events, continuing to celebrate community-driven initiatives that inspire and uplift future generations.
