A male was shot dead on Friday 5 September at 09:41. This occurred a few metres from the Athlone Magistrates’ Court. He was shot twice in the back and head while walking through the passage that leads to the entrance of the court.
“The incident at the court is gang-related and emergency services are on the scene. In two separate incidents, a 53-year-old woman was shot in the head outside Dr Abduragman Hospital in Kewton. She is currently at Groote Schuur Hospital for further treatment.
In the third incident, an unknown male was also knocked over by a vehicle in Koodoo Street, Athlone. He was shot in his back and is also at Groote Schuur Hospital for further treatment,” says Sgt Zita Norman, spokesperson for Athlone Police Station. The investigation into all three incidents continues. A large police presence is in the Athlone area.
