The Lions Club of Tokai hosted its annual Children’s Christmas Party on Saturday 6 December, welcoming 70 children from three local community organisations. Club spokesperson Mark Rossouw said the Ions Club Tokai Children’s Christmas Party aimed to “create a day of joy and dignity for children who deserve to feel valued.”

Children from three community organisations join the celebration

Children from the Jabula informal settlement in Philippi, the Marsh Memorial Children’s Home in Rondebosch, and the Amazing Grace Upliftment Centre in Westlake attended the joyful event.

The day was truly a highlight for all who attended this memorable Ions Club Tokai Children’s Christmas celebration.

Activities included face painting, cupcake decorating, a nail-and-tattoo bar, a magic show, and a balloon show. The Lakeside Fire Station also brought a fire engine for a demonstration. This demonstration proved a big hit at the festive Ions Club Tokai party for the children.

Fire Engine visit excites young guests

Rossouw said the fire engine visit was “one of the moments the children look forward to every year.” He added that the team’s presence “brings excitement and inspires the young ones.” It was another thrilling component of the Ions Club Tokai Children’s Christmas Party.

Santa claus steals the spotlight

The highlight of the day was the arrival of Santa Claus. Each child received a personalised Christmas gift, along with school stationery, breakfast, lunch, soft-serve ice cream, and fresh fruit. That’s what made the Ions Club Tokai celebration so special for each child.

“For many of these children, the gift they receive at this party is the only Christmas present they will get,” Rossouw said. “That is why this project is so important to us as a club.”

Gratitude to sponsors and volunteers

Rossouw described the event as a success and thanked sponsors, donors, and service providers for their support. “This day is only possible because of the generosity of people who care,” he said. The Ions Club Tokai Children’s Christmas Party wouldn’t be the same without them.

Special recognition was given to Lions District 410W First Vice District Governor Herman Laubscher, Blue Route Mall Shopping Centre Manager Bronwyn Rabie and her team, Siyabonga Nomongo, Chrislynn Charles, and the Lakeside Fire Station firemen.

Rossouw also expressed gratitude to the chaperones, volunteers, and club members. “Everyone worked together to ensure the children had a memorable day. It truly reflects the spirit of service,” he concluded about the successful Ions Club Tokai Children’s event.
