Around 200 learners and parents from St Agnes Primary School in Woodstock came together on Saturday 25 April for a 3km fundraising walk, raising more than R12 000 towards upgrading the school’s library.

The 127-year-old school, based in Dublin Street, faces ongoing maintenance and repair needs, making fundraising initiatives essential to support both its facilities and learners.

The walk started at 9:00 and brought learners, parents, teachers and community members together for a morning focused on fitness, fun and community spirit.

Chantal Maarman, teacher and fundraising committee member at the school, said this was the first time the school hosted a fun walk as a fundraising initiative, aimed at doing something different while encouraging stronger community involvement.

She explained that each grade dressed according to different themes, including superheroes, minions, sailors, and Minnie and Mickey Mouse.

“We would like to thank everyone who contributed to make the day a great success. We are always looking at ways to raise funds and this year we thought to do something different.”

Maarman explained that the event was also designed to promote wellness and fitness among families, while helping to strengthen the relationship between the school and the wider Woodstock community.

“St Agnes Primary School would like to thank all learners, parents and staff for your enthusiasm and wonderful support.”

She said the school, which has about 535 learners enrolled, continues to rely on financial support as many learners come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Maarman added that besides plans to improve the library, the school foyer also needs repainting, along with several other maintenance projects still on the priority list.
