Learners at Jumpstart Pre-School in Kenwyn dressed up on Friday 23 September to celebrate Heritage Day. The celebrations were held a day earlier as Heritage Day, also known as Braai Day, was celebrated on Saturday 24 September.

Teachers and learners planned the event during the week and it was a pleasant surprise for other teachers and learners when everyone arrived as someone else in celebrating their culture.

“The children at Jumpstart learn from an early age about various cultures and creeds that ought to live in harmony in our beautiful country called South Africa.

“At Jumpstart we have a diverse body of learners, all acknowledged for their uniqueness and beauty. No child is declined acceptance due to colour, religion, nationality or financial status,” says Aziza Ebrahim, principal at Jumpstart.

The teachers at Jumpstart are also diverse.

“We have a great team spirit, where we work together for the love of God’s special children,” she says.

The school had “visitors” from India, KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, and a mother from the Cape Flats arrived in her gown and wooden spoon to make sure her child is in school.

Here are some of the learners in their attire.
