Residents from across the Peninsula gathered on Hout Bay Beach on Wednesday night to show their solidarity with the parents of missing German tourist Nick Frischke.
The 22-year-old was reported missing over two weeks ago.
An intensive search of Karbonkelberg and Sentinel Peak in Hout Bay has thus far come up empty.
A local hiking group called Sweatt (Sprinters, Walkers, Eaters and Trash Talkers) organised the candlelight vigil.
Marianne Mohd, a member of the hiking group, says the idea for the vigil took shape last Saturday when the group was hiking.
“We were just talking about what had happened to Nick, and as mommies, how we associate with his mom. This is a child who is not in his country, (this vigil) is saying your child is my child, His mommy is not here, but we are here to represent her. And that is what we want her to feel,” says Mohd.
Various hiking groups have signed up to participate in a search for Frischke on Saturday.
