Police are investigating a murder after a decomposed body was discovered inside an abandoned house in Hout Bay on Monday evening.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the grim discovery was made near the Sea View Flats in Hangberg on Monday 17 February at about 18:40.
Police confirmed the body was found in an advanced state of decomposition and the victim has not yet been identified.
“This office confirms Hout Bay police is currently investigating a case of murder following the discovery of a body in Hout Bay,” SAPS said in a statement.
“The identity is yet to be determined as the body was found decomposed.”
Residents shaken by discovery
The incident has left residents shaken, with community members describing the discovery as deeply disturbing.
Police have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the death or whether any suspects have been identified.
Appeal for public assistance
Authorities have appealed to the public for assistance as investigations continue.
“Anyone with information is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app to report anonymously,” police said.
Community safety structures are expected to engage residents following the incident amid ongoing concerns about abandoned buildings in the area.
