One of Cape Town’s oldest fire stations is sporting a brand new coat of paint while the City of Cape Town completes its latest upgrades to the facility.
Sea Point Fire Station is among the City’s oldest facilities and dates back to 1932.
The total cost of the renovation project amounts to R7 861 597,09 over two financial years (2024 – 2025) and is 95% complete.
The building renovations include painting, roof replacement, tiling, updating electrical infrastructure, repairing cracks along the building facade and new gutters.
During the planning and implementation stage, the conservation of the heritage status and architectural features of the fire station were prioritised as they are recognised as an important landmark in Sea Point.
“Our fire and rescue service has a long and proud history in Cape Town and we have the responsibility to maintain and preserve our fire station. Fire stations are beacons of hope in times of emergencies and it is important to know that they are well maintained and continue to provide services for those in need for generations to come,” said Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith.
